8/8 West Thumb Geyser Basin

I was able to ride my bike to this location about 4 miles away because this part of the main road actually had a shoulder wide than a foot.  Yellowstone has very few bike paths, unfortunately, and considering the heavy big vehicle traffic this time of year, it just isn't safe.

This area of the is along the lake, but does not have any really active geysers.  Most are just colorful bubbling pools, but it is a pretty area.
 






And while most people are taking photos of the landscape, I am taking photos of bugs.  Isn't this one striking?  It is a male common whitetail dragonfly.  Apparently, the coloring on the wings of the female is more striped and the tail is brown.
