7/3 Chief Timothy Park

After leaving the Bitterroot Mountains and getting into Washington State, the Clearwater River joins up to become part of the Snake River.  This part of eastern Washington State consists of rolling, grass-covered hills.  Chief Timothy Park is a Corps of Engineering Campground along the Snake River on an island, but is managed commercially, so no discount to seniors.

So, over the bridge to the island campground.

It is a fairly nice place, with some sites having full hookups and some having only water and electric.

It was a cloudy day, but I walked to the far end of the river to take pictures anyway.

The blackberries are almost ripe.  In fact, I found and ate the only ripe one on this plant.

Nice place to live!

This animal's body was about a foot long and it had a furry tail that was about 8" long.  That eliminates beavers, so it has to be in the marmot family--either a woodchuck, groundhog, or other type of marmot.  Before I so rudely snapped its photo, it was a couple of feet up an old log eating berries.

It was not hot today, but obviously, this campground has been having problems with its electric boxes.  Here is a photo of one of the main boxes with a box fan strapped to it!  This is a first in my six years of full-time camping!

And this one not only has a box fan strapped to it, but it has a tent over it to shade it!

  1. So glad you are back posting. It must be really hot at that campground to need those fans and tents on the electric post!
