5/3 Zion National Park

You may have noticed that I tend to post either just before I leave a place or a day or two later.  This time, I am a bit late for two reasons: First, I have been sick with bronchitis almost the entire 12 days I spent at Zion National Park.  Second, I dropped my camera and had a bit of a problem downloading my photos.

I am slowly getting better, but still occasionally coughing, so trying to rest as much as possible.  I did go to urgent care a few days after my can't-catch-my-breath cough began, and am a lot better.  The camera is another issue.  I really rely on my Sony Cybershot because it has a real viewfinder and 30x optical zoom, so it takes great photos.  The problem is that the lens is making a ratcheting sound as it comes out when I turn the camera on, plus the telephoto is not working at all.  I hate to spend a thousand $$ or more on a new camera, so I am making do and hoping to find someone who can repair it.  Problem is that Sony does not repair point-and-shoot camera, and suggests you just buy a new one!

Anyway, I have been to Zion National Park several times and had a very nice site in the Watchman Campground, so it was a good, comfortable place to spend a few restful days.  I did go out for a walk a few times, and even took the shuttle down to the far end of the park, but I got tired, so did not do much sightseeing.  I also stopped at the visitor center and bought some books for family members for Christmas.

It's a nice drive to get to Zion, even if you did not enter the park!

This is the campsite I have stayed in a couple of times.  It is big and gives me a good southern view for my DISH satellite so I can watch TV.

Nice view, as well.

Love this campground!

It's a substantial walk to the visitor center and then the shuttle stop.  You cannot drive down the canyon, but there are shuttles that run from early morning until early evening, but the specific times do vary throughout the year.  Tip:  You can put your bike on the front of the shuttle and have them drop you off at the very end.  From there back to the campground, it is all downhill!!

These guys look cute, but they like to steal food, so be careful when you eat something, as they will literally climb onto your lap and grab food from your mouth!

The last shuttle stop takes you to the walkway to the narrows, which is the part of the canyon where it narrows so you must wade into the river to get past it.  They rent waders and special shoes in the nearby town.

I'll work on another posting tomorrow.
