8/2 Blackberries

Blackberries are EVERYWHERE in Oregon and Washington.  And, if you are just a bit lucky, you will find a campsite with your own blackberry patch.  These photos were taken of Site B06 at Champoeg Historical State Park, in case you want to pick your own some time.

My site had at least 15 linear feet of blackberry bushes. If I had had enough energy and had gotten out my long grabber, I could have picked enough for a pie or even two.

The greenish-looking berries in the background, by the way, are unripe Oregon grapes.  These are neither grapes, nor edible, but they are the official Oregon berry and the birds like them.

And this was the result of about 15 minutes of picking!  Dessert!
