8/2 Drive from Eugene to Bend and a lot of smoke!

I drove about 160 miles today from Eugene, Oregon, to Bend, Oregon.  The road takes you from about 700' in altitude over a 5,000' pass and back down to about 2,500'.  And if you have been reading the news, you will know today was extremely hot, as is nearly all of the Northwest this week.  Supposed to cool down in a couple of days, but in the meantime, I am happy to have electric hookup and air conditioning!

This is a view from near the pass.  Note how the mountains are a little foggy looking.  It is smoke from forest fires north of here.

This is part of the B&B fire from 2003.   It was one of the biggest forest fires in the U.S., but you see the forest is regrowing.

The hill in the distance has a ski lift on top of it.

Note how the fire has burned right down to the rock.  That tells you how hot the fire was.

Hard to read, but here is a sign describing the fire.

Left the fire area and almost to Bend.

This is usually an incredibly beautiful reservoir, but note the amount of smoke.  There are forest fires 100 miles away, and it has been blowing this way.  Can't smell anything, but it sure ruins the view.

This whole area around Bend and a hundred miles around is volcanic, so you can see the volcanic rock on the walls of the canyon.  This is a Y-shaped lake, comprised of two intersecting canyons.

Neat little bridge!

More photos of the campground and canyon in a couple of days.
